The following is a transcript of the 2007 MFI End of Year awards ceremony. It was held in the #maquis channel on fleetchat.org on IRC. The date was Sunday May 18, 2008 and was commenced at 2130EDT.

Good evening Ladies and gentlemen, Officers and enlisted, members of Maquis Forces International. I am Force Captain Barbara Adams and this is our annual End of Year awards ceremony.

First let me apologize on behalf of all involved. We are running quite late this year. Many on the awards board have had personal tragedy of one sort or another. However, we plow on and although late, we get the job done.
MFI is a unique organization. One I've been proud of being part of since 1999. We do so much for our members at no cost to them. However, it means a all volunteer force doing multiple jobs. Sometimes we aren't on time, or we make mistakes. But I see that as one of our strongest points.

We're real here in MFI. We're not the "got to do it my way" types many of us fled from the other organizations to avoid. Our imperfections are what make MFI one of top international Star Trek organizations in the world today. As head of Membership Dept, I can tell you we span more countries than anyone else. We have achieved many first, include our Quartermaster's excellent products unique to MFI. We're MFI, and we do it our way on our time and say good bye to the stifling corporation types of fan clubs.

It's my please to award you the Marine Achievement Medal for your hard work, loyalty and fine work as Vice Commandant of the MFMC. Well done.

  • RAdm_Logan_Andrews: AS well as FCapt David Ferber for his work as the Head of the SOC

  • RAdm_Logan_Andrews: In addition several Operatives received both the SOC Commendation Medal and the SOC Achievement Medal. However due to the secret nature of SOC operations, they will be given in private.

  • FCapt_Barbara_Adams: I just received word that my dear husband forgot to mention that Commodore Gene Yazdir also received a SOC commendation Medal for his public work within the SOC.
  • FCapt_Barbara_Adams: Colonel Marc Easterly, due to the secret nature of the SOC we don't always get the announcements on a timely basis. I am proud to present you with your SOC Achievement Medal, which we just received word you are allowed to accept publicly
  • Col_Marc_Easterly: Yes, ma'am, thank you.

    • For excellent dedication and work to MFI, It is my pleasure to announce Commodore Gene Yazdir as our MFI Rebel of the Year,
    • and MFS Intrepid II as the MFI Unit of the Year!
  • VIC_Gen_Doane: Commodore Yazdir and the MFS Intrepid II have both earned these awards well and may they continue to bring honor to their crews, themselves and their fellow Maquis.


  • VIC_Gen_Doane: Now we have a very special award to present, tonight. One that is not awarded often...
  • VIC_Gen_Doane: On the afternoon of December 3, 2007, while laying down to rest, Commander Melinda Lord's blood sugar level plummeted dangerously low. When Captain Jones discovered her, she had already experienced hypoglycemic convulsions and was unconscious. Captain Jones attempted to rouse her with several levels of stimuli, to no avail. Thinking quickly, he called 911. When the Paramedic tested Commander Lord's blood sugar. It was 32, significantly lower than the normal 100. The Paramedic stated that if Captain Jones had not reacted as quickly as he did, Commander Lord would have died without regaining consciousness. In recognition of his quick thinking, resulting in the saving of Commander Melinda Lord, It is MFI's great pleasure to award to Captain Bryan Jones the Silver Starburst, MFI's 3rd highest award.
  • VIC_Gen_Doane: Now Captain Jones could not be here tonight so he will receive this award at a later time.
  • Col_Anne: Ma'am, as a member of MFS Carolina, I commend Captain Jones on his award.


  • VIC_Gen_Doane: Now if I may,
  • VIC_Gen_Doane: There were many awardees tonight and some would say 'what do fandom awards matter?', I say allot. These are signs of the high esteem and respect your fellow fans wish to show to honor your hard work for no money. So I say Well Done All!
