*Rebel Of the Year: Not Yet Approved By ZC: Whitney DuVal - Whitney's compelling story work in the Labor Day Offensive that actually got published (http://wiki.maquis.com/w/Fan_Fiction_/Labor_Day_2011/Dominator_waltz) made not only our chapter after a VERY long dry spell from participating in "fleet" events.  She was key in being vocal that we should really do something and participate 100% in LDO.  With that being published, not only did it give her great pride, since she is a graduate with an English major,  but gave us as a chapter great pride as for the first time we "found" our nitch to participate in fleet events due to the restrictions on the CO and we are still tring to work together to include everyone.  I felt that Whitney did that, and for the first time as a CO with restrictions made me proud for i felt that i got to participate as well.  She in my opinion, embody's  what the maquis stands for when it comes to inclusion and comradery but also represented her Zone to the best of her ability.  Therefor as her CO i nominate her for Zone 2 Rebel of the Year.

*Rebel Of the Year:Nom not yet approved by ZC: General K'moghjIH zantai-Ki'RK (Larry D. French, Sr.) has distinguished himself by putting in countless hours in volunteer service and is recommended as Zone 3 Volunteer of the Year. He has been updating the KTF pages with the new pages that have been developed through the Klingon Warrior Academy. He spend about 50 hours serving on the Planning Committee for the Liver Life Walk. He earned University of Phoenix's Community Service of the Year Award for his work with the Liver Life Walk. He organized the Adopt-A-Highway Program for the crew with the State of PA Department of Transportation and got the crew to clean up a 3/4 mile stretch of roadway twice in six months consisting of about 3 hours each. He also serves on the Site Restoration Committee of the Pittsburgh Race For The Cure and put 16 hours volunteering with that program. He is active with his Masonic Lodge and has participated with the Child Identification Program several times. He also led S.E.A.L.S. Team Six in the Labor Day Offensive this year.

*Volunteer of The Year: Nom not yet approved by ZC: BGEN KSimka zantai-Ki'RK (Debbie French) is hereby recommended for Zone 3 Rebel of the Year because she has put in timeless hours writing up pages to be used on the KTF web site. These pages have earned her Distinction in several Klingon Warrior Academy exams. In addition to this, Debbie is also hereby recommended for the KTF Achievement Award for this fine work. (awards board note: recommend that one of these be chosen rather then both for same work)

*Chapter Of The Year: Nom not yet approved by ZC: The ICV Heghnach is the flagship of the Klingon Task Force and has participated in several volunteer events as well as campaigns. Reason: These four individuals took the time to participate in testing of the new Maquis Academy course format that I have just launched. Without their help, there would still be many problems in the operation of the course and I wouldn't have been able to launch the new format without errors or failure.

*MFI Achievements:
+
On 18 July of this year, FCOL Paul Williams recommended Tyler Pugh for the MFI Achievement Medal for his actions at the Anime North convention where Tyler worked in spite of a painful injury.

 +
On the same date, Paul also recommended himself and Tyler for the MFI Commendation Medal for their work at conventions in Canada.
 +
Additionally Paul recommended himself and Tyler for the Marine Commendation Medal for the same reasons. I would like to second those recommendations for the MFMC Commendation Medal.
 +
 +
Here are the facts as I have been able to glean them;
 +
Tyler has been working with KAG at Anime North since 2005. He missed it in 2008 when he was on active duty in the Canadian Forces. Tyler has done worked security and many other things at Anime North to promote MFI to the masses.
 +
 +
For several years Tyler has run a paintball team that would at times “act out” the endeavors of SEALS Team 5, the team was disbanded in 2010 when money and school got in the way and Maj Russell moved up near Ottawa.
 +
 +
Tyler was also involved with LARP (Live Action Role Playing) which apparently would (at times) do the same as the paintball team in acting out SEALS Team actions. Currently Tyler is in talks with expanding a Paintball team from Quebec into Ontario Paul will be his 2IC that should be getting started around April.
 +
 +
In 2010 and 2011 Paul helped KAG at Anime North. Both he and Tyler did as much as possible to promote MFI at these events.
 +
 +
Between 2009 and 2010 Paul was an Active member of Tyler’s Paintball team that Tyler ran with Maj Matt Russell
 +
 +
Gaming wise Paul did Mech Warrior and Battle Tech with some clubs, in 2010 - 2011 Paul tried forming his own Paintball team.

Write up for the above 5 names: For their assistance in reviewing and beta testing all Maquis Origin Course Materials. At over ten pages of raw information and 60 questions, it is a significant focus of ones time. Thanks to them the Liberal Arts Dean was easily able to put out a quality set of courses based on the origins of the Maquis.<br><br>

Awards Board Note: Reported to his CO by Cary Griffin) Cary Griffin received a phone call, from my brother said he was a half mile up the road from my apartment, he tells me that there was an owl in the road and the cars, where trying to hit it, my brother Cory Griffin, he told me to grab a box and help, at this time all I grab are my flip flops and run out the door with cooler I run down the hill to help, when I get there, I help my brother try to direct traffic away from the owl while also trying to get the owl to move off the highway, and after a few minutes the owl jumps on my brothers foot like it was a perch, and this was no small owl it was a Barn owl fully grown, it stood about a 1'6" in height with a wing span of about 4'6". I carefully put the cooler around the bird, and he jumped right off my brother’s shoe and in to the cooler. We carried him to the house, and I called the police, they said animal control was closed till Monday, they said they would send a police officer to get the bird, about 10 minutes after calling the officer showed up at my doorstep, he opens the lid and said “Wow you caught that?’, I said yeah. he said you know they are protected and endangered, I said I did not known, he said that it would get the help it needed, then he said can you load it in to my car for me. <br><br>

Whitney DuVal - Whitney's compelling story work in the Labor Day Offensive that actually got published (http://wiki.maquis.com/w/Fan_Fiction_/Labor_Day_2011/Dominator_waltz) made not only our chapter after a VERY long dry spell from participating in "fleet" events. She in my opinion, embody's  what the maquis stands for when it comes to inclusion and comradery but also represented her Zone to the best of her ability

Let me explain...
 +
I went shopping for some holiday gifts, the other day; while at one store,
 +
I picked up a couple of kids beginner art sets at Michael's craft store for
 +
under $10 (buy one, get one free). In line, I mentioned to the
 +
clerk/cashier that I was getting them for Toys 4 Tots, as a donation on
 +
behalf of the Aurora. She bought two, and the lady behind me did as well,
 +
making me wait until they had made their purchases so I could take those
 +
donations too for a total of eight extra art kits. The lady behind me also
 +
got our info in case her son and his family might be interested in joining
 +
us, since they're also sci-fi/fantasy fans. I left the store with a total
 +
of 10 art kits, having paid for just one myself!
 +

 +
Then, I went to Toys'R'Us, since they were right next door. They were also
 +
having a special. Classic children's games like Candy Land, Chutes &
 +
Ladders, and others were on special for $5 each, and for every 2 you
 +
bought, you'd get 1 free. I got Candy Land and Hi-hi Cherry-o, with Chutes
 +
& Ladders as the freebie. As the cashier was ringing me up, I again
 +
mentioned why I was making the purchase, and how I hoped some lucky child
 +
would get the chance to play these old-school games just as I had played
 +
with grandparents, mom and dad, sibs and cousins too. She loved the idea,
 +
and the woman's teen daughter behind me in line begged her allowance a few
 +
days early to buy two games to donate, too. I also gave my contacts for the
 +
Aurora and connected organizations to each of them - as well as the
 +
stock-boy who was up front for a price-check, and he was also enticed by
 +
this spirit of giving to purchase even more games to be donated that day. I
 +
left there with a total of 15 games, having purchased 2! And, I'd been able
 +
to pass along information about the Aurora (and marine unit) and her
 +
mission to four people who were interested in our club and the
 +
organizations we belong to.
 +

 +
As the local U.S.M.C. Recruitment office just happened to be right across
 +
the parking lot, in the strip mall next door, I took them all in and let
 +
the fellows know that the Aurora crew (and Firebirds) had a nice collection
 +
of donations for them. They were ecstatic, and I again gave the information
 +
of how to look us up and contact us, for later, before taking a call from
 +
the X.O. and excitedly telling about this wonderful experience.
 +

 +
It was a fantastic day out! I encourage you (as our Firebirds often say and
 +
do) to also "Rise Above". Promote yourself, your friends and family who are
 +
your crew, and the organization that encourages you to do great things. It
 +
not only helps to spread the word to others who might be interested, but it
 +
can inspire and bring hope to those in your community - and to yourselves,
 +
particularly when you get such a response as I did.
 +

 +
Tomorrow, our crew will be doing more toy collection for T4T and the Teddy
 +
Bear Patrol, as well as baking up some goodies to share with our community
 +
police and fire stations, as just another way to help promote ourselves and
 +
share the spirit of good will and charity with those in our little corner
 +
of the Universe.

FCapt Joshua Laury MFI-RM-1007
MCapt Richard Bonham MFI-RM-1094

Reason: These four individuals took the time to participate in testing of the new Maquis Academy course format that I have just launched. Without their help, there would still be many problems in the operation of the course and I wouldn't have been able to launch the new format without errors or failure.

Awards Board Note: Tyler Pugh MFI-RM-413 is also recommended for MFICM and MFMC Commendation. Recommendation is one should be chosen if too much is deemed 'overlap'.
On 18 July of this year, FCOL Paul Williams recommended Tyler Pugh for the MFI Achievement Medal for his actions at the Anime North convention where Tyler worked in spite of a painful injury.

On the same date, Paul also recommended himself and Tyler for the MFI Commendation Medal for their work at conventions in Canada. Additionally Paul recommended himself and Tyler for the Marine Commendation Medal for the same reasons. I would like to second those recommendations for the MFMC Commendation Medal.

Here are the facts as I have been able to glean them; Tyler has been working with KAG at Anime North since 2005. He missed it in 2008 when he was on active duty in the Canadian Forces. Tyler has done worked security and many other things at Anime North to promote MFI to the masses.

For several years Tyler has run a paintball team that would at times “act out” the endeavors of SEALS Team 5, the team was disbanded in 2010 when money and school got in the way and Maj Russell moved up near Ottawa.

In 2010 and 2011 Paul helped KAG at Anime North. Both he and Tyler did as much as possible to promote MFI at these events.

Between 2009 and 2010 Paul was an Active member of Tyler’s Paintball team that Tyler ran with Maj Matt Russell

Gaming wise Paul did Mech Warrior and Battle Tech with some clubs, in 2010 - 2011 Paul tried forming his own Paintball team.

(awards board note: is getting a Naval Campaign Ribbon, more then that may be too much CO has put in for MFIAM, NCR, NAM, SOC Campaign Ribbon and SOC Achievement, write up from CO of MFS Nominator. May need to coordinate with Operations and SOC command to coordinate response. Just seems un-needed to list this same phrase for all the nomination areas.) Medal - For our participation in the LDO to the point where the Dominator was MOSTLY Destroyed

Laura Hartwell
Frank Parker
Joshua Laury
Brian Mullins
Brian Pickett
Write up for the above 5 names: For their assistance in reviewing and beta testing all Maquis Origin Course Materials. At over ten pages of raw information and 60 questions, it is a significant focus of ones time. Thanks to them the Liberal Arts Dean was easily able to put out a quality set of courses based on the origins of the Maquis.

MFI Volunteer Of The Year

  • Nominees: (first one placed here as seemed to involve mostly one person)

Brian Pickett CAPT, MFS Aurora NCC-72707

(Awards Board Note: from a message posted on members list serve)

Let me explain... I went shopping for some holiday gifts, the other day; while at one store, I picked up a couple of kids beginner art sets at Michael's craft store for under $10 (buy one, get one free). In line, I mentioned to the clerk/cashier that I was getting them for Toys 4 Tots, as a donation on behalf of the Aurora. She bought two, and the lady behind me did as well, making me wait until they had made their purchases so I could take those donations too for a total of eight extra art kits. The lady behind me also got our info in case her son and his family might be interested in joining us, since they're also sci-fi/fantasy fans. I left the store with a total of 10 art kits, having paid for just one myself!

Then, I went to Toys'R'Us, since they were right next door. They were also having a special. Classic children's games like Candy Land, Chutes & Ladders, and others were on special for $5 each, and for every 2 you bought, you'd get 1 free. I got Candy Land and Hi-hi Cherry-o, with Chutes & Ladders as the freebie. As the cashier was ringing me up, I again mentioned why I was making the purchase, and how I hoped some lucky child would get the chance to play these old-school games just as I had played with grandparents, mom and dad, sibs and cousins too. She loved the idea, and the woman's teen daughter behind me in line begged her allowance a few days early to buy two games to donate, too. I also gave my contacts for the Aurora and connected organizations to each of them - as well as the stock-boy who was up front for a price-check, and he was also enticed by this spirit of giving to purchase even more games to be donated that day. I left there with a total of 15 games, having purchased 2! And, I'd been able to pass along information about the Aurora (and marine unit) and her mission to four people who were interested in our club and the organizations we belong to.

As the local U.S.M.C. Recruitment office just happened to be right across the parking lot, in the strip mall next door, I took them all in and let the fellows know that the Aurora crew (and Firebirds) had a nice collection of donations for them. They were ecstatic, and I again gave the information of how to look us up and contact us, for later, before taking a call from the X.O. and excitedly telling about this wonderful experience.

It was a fantastic day out! I encourage you (as our Firebirds often say and do) to also "Rise Above". Promote yourself, your friends and family who are your crew, and the organization that encourages you to do great things. It not only helps to spread the word to others who might be interested, but it can inspire and bring hope to those in your community - and to yourselves, particularly when you get such a response as I did.

Tomorrow, our crew will be doing more toy collection for T4T and the Teddy Bear Patrol, as well as baking up some goodies to share with our community police and fire stations, as just another way to help promote ourselves and share the spirit of good will and charity with those in our little corner of the Universe. --

  • MFS Dominator: For the again LDO, Whitney's compelling story work in the Labor Day Offensive that actually got published (http://wiki.maquis.com/w/Fan_Fiction_/Labor_Day_2011/Dominator_waltz) made not only our chapter after a VERY long dry spell from participating in "fleet" events. And for Jason Ryan's and Kermit Swan's Volunteer work as National Weather Service Storm Spotters as we where putting our LIVES on the line the night of April 27th, 2011 when the south was ravaged by a HISTORIC outbreak of severe weather. Jason Ryan and Kermit Swan where tracking radar and coordinating spotters in the field as this out break happened. We where Assisting NEWS 5 WCYB with REAL time spotter reports and information to get the information out to the public as quick as we could.
