Introduction

[18:32] LoganAndrews_CCO_RAdm: Good evening everyone and welcome to the second MFI Change of Command, An event that we are proud to say we rarely do, because the leadership is so good...
We know that because we have you, the members, vote to tell us that on a regular basis.

First an announcement...
FAdm elect Cummings is having technical difficulties right now...we think it's the local server....we're working on that but we'll continue on and pray to the tech gods for a speedy return

I'd like to introduce our outgoing IC....He's a man I am proud to call a mentor and a friend...

He stepped in and took over the reins to fill in the void left by Gary when he retired. And did it well if I do say so... I present to you, FADM Rob Johnson.

FADM Johnson's Speech

RobJohnson-FADM: Greetings, fellow Maquis;
Back in 2004, when FADM Davis announced his intentions to the CC that he was stepping down, I was ready to gladly support either ADM Donohoe, or ADM Casey as they stepped up to take over, as they had been groomed to do.

Little did I know that Tom and Laura would both decline due to personal reasons and the three of them would gang up on me to run for IC. [Grin]

With my history of being a VERY strict COS, I didn't think I'd have a ghost of a chance, due to the many toes I thought I had stepped on throughout the years.

When it came time for the Nomination Vote, I found that a majority of MFI's membership respected my up front objectivity and realized that everything I did was for the benefit of MFI as a whole and not for personal political reasons. Having the overwhelming support of MFI's General Membership made the thought of taking on the task of running MFI much easier.

As I mentioned in my initial Election Platform, I was not looking to become a "Long Term" IC, as Gary had been (I didn't have that many tranquilizers and scotch in the house!!)... I only signed on as a Transitional Leader, hoping to groom a new team to lead MFI into the future.

Although we lost some of our original management and mid-management team, many of you have stepped up to fill in the gaps and I thank those of you who have taken over for those who needed to leave the Mid and Upper Management team.

In no way, has running MFI been a "One Man Show". The support I've gotten from the Branch Heads, Zone Coordinators, Department Heads and Coordinator Council has been great and I'd like to thank each and every one for their Input (both Pro and Con) of the various ideas and proposals I've brought before them over the last 2 years.

MFI has made some Fantastic advances over during the last two years. I'd like to think all the advances were MY ideas, but they weren't. Every advance was due to the dedication and teamwork of various MFI members.

Bringing Wiki to MFI, Linking MFI's database to secure both the Academy AND Wiki, the rebuilding of Maquis Academy, revamping and rebuilding MFMC, building our Simulation Fleet, as well as many other projects, were all inspired and carried out to fruition due to teamwork.

I would like to take this time to award some of MFI's members for their contributions to MFI during my administration as IC:

Out-going IC's Awards/Presentations

I would like to recognize a few individuals who have made my brief administration a success and the light of my leadership shine a little brighter and strive a little further. There are so very many to recognize, yet these individuals shone the brightest.

Will Robertson, Taylor Goodwill... Front & Center.

RobJohnson-FADM: Taylor couldn't join us tonight, but I shall read his award to be presented later.

One of the downsides of having a Web based organization is limiting access to the site, in order to minimize various attacks.

In the past, this meant that everyone who had a page on our site needed to upload changes to a handful of members who would in turn, update MFI's pages for everyone. The combined efforts of Will Robertson and Taylor Goodwill gave MFI the major contribution of MFI-Wiki...

MFI Wiki allows each Dept, Branch, Division, Zone Coordinator, as well as our Chapter COs and Members to create their own pages and update them whenever they wish. How many other Fan Organizations offer this?

In the Spring of 2005, a Major attack against maquis.com required Will and Logan Andrews to make a major linking of the MFI Database and Wiki Coding to give us added Anti-Hacking security. This same attack against maquis.com also required a complete reconstruction of the Academy moodle Software.

For their contributions to the design, implementation, modification and constant upgrades to MFI-Wiki, I present Will and Taylor with the MFI Commendation Medal (MFICM). Congratulations!

  • RobJohnson-FADM presents Award and shakes awardee's hand
  • WillRobertson-VADM accepts the Award and shakes Presenter's hand
  • WillRobertson-VADM takes one step back and salutes.
  • WillRobertson-VADM performs an about face and returns to his seat

RobJohnson-FADM: David Miller, Front & Center.
Unfortunately, Dave couldn't be here tonight, but I would like to read the award into the official transcript.

RobJohnson-FADM: When the Academy crashed, taking all of its College and Course material with it, getting software back online would be just the framework of rebuilding the Academy. All the original courses, as well as new courses would need to be rewritten, re-uploaded, tested and implemented.

When we lost the Academy, we also lost many of the original Deans. Although some of the remaining Deans had back-up copies of their courses, Dave was the only one who made hard copies of each and every course he had taken.

Dave may not have realized it at the time he was doing it, but his actions allowed us to shave some serious time off of the Academy refit. Dave not only rebuilt his own College, but rebuilt several others as well.

For those Deans who didn't have back-ups of their courses, Dave went the extra mile to Fax his copies to them, so they wouldn't have to rewrite their courses from scratch.

For his forethought, dedication, extra time and effort and willingness to assist others in rebuilding the Maquis Academy, I present Dr. Dave Miller with the MFI Commendation Medal (MFICM). Congratulations!

Dave's award will be forwarded to him

RobJohnson-FADM: Steve Lackey, Front & Center.

Steve (10 of 9) Lackey has been a behind the scenes worker bee for almost 10 years. When the Academy 1st went automated, he manned the Snail Mail academy for those who couldn't take the exams online.

During this administration, Steve took on the assignment of DCOS under General Doane. One of his 1st tasks was heading up the Handbook revision. This task in itself took hundreds, if not thousands of hours going chapter by chapter, line by line, removing outdated material, rewording vague passages and checking the handbook for Flow.

Later, when I lost my Second Chief of Operations, Steve agreed to become my "Lame Duck" COO.

Not knowing who the next IC would be, this COULD have been a VERY short-term assignment. [Grin]

Steve has done an excellent job in coordinating the ZCs, watch-dogging the various WIki pages, assisting New Members with their MFI-Wiki User and Chapter pages, experimenting with wiki code and more.

For successfully taking on the task of revamping the MFI Handbook as Deputy COS, as well as his exceptional 1st quarter as COO, I present Steve (10 of 9) Lackey with the MFI Commendation Medal (MFICM). Congratulations!

  • RobJohnson-FADM presents Award and shakes awardee's hand
  • SteveLackey-RADM returns the salute
  • SteveLackey-RADM performs an about face and returns to his seat

RobJohnson-FADM: Samuel Cummings, Logan Andrews, Front & Center.

  • LoganAndrews_CCO_RAdm moves to stand in front of RobJohnson-FADM and salutes
  • RobJohnson-FADM returns the salute

RobJohnson-FADM: Sam's still running late...
Sam started off as my Chief of CompOps and Logan as our Membership Dept Head. As such, they worked hand in hand with Will and Taylor in implementing MFI Wiki, modifying and upgrading the database links and rebuilding the Academy.

When ADM Casey was no longer able to continue as VIC, Sam agreed to give up CompOps to become my VIC and train a replacement for CompOps. Although Logan's 1st love (in MFI) has always been Membership & Awards, he agreed to pass this area to Barb Adams, in order to take on CompOps and learn the additional computer languages needed to perform the tasks.

For their work in MFI-Wiki, the Db, the Academy Rebuild and accepting relocation to positions and responsibility they didn't "Sign on for", I present Sam and Logan with the MFI Commendation Medal (MFICM). Congratulations!

  • RobJohnson-FADM presents Award and shakes awardee's hand
  • LoganAndrews_CCO_RAdm accepts the Award and shakes RobJohnson-FADM hand
  • LoganAndrews_CCO_RAdm takes one step back and salutes.

RobJohnson-FADM: Sam's award will be forwarded

RobJohnson-FADM: While I have you both here, I would like to take this time to officially promote RADM Logan Andrews to the rank of Vice Admiral and officially promote VADM Samuel Cummings to Force Admiral.
Congratulations Logan and Sam!

  • LoganAndrews_CCO_RAdm performs an about face and returns to his seat
  • LoganAndrews_CCO_RAdm returns
  • RobJohnson-FADM and shakes awardees' hands

RobJohnson-FADM: LOL
LoganAndrews_CCO_RAdm: Thank you Sir, an honor indeed
RobJohnson-FADM: ...a promotion long overdue

  • LoganAndrews-CCO-VAdm returns to scrambling all around..;)

RobJohnson-FADM: If Sam were here... I'd say...
Samuel Cummings, remain standing please... Christina Doane, Front & Center.

RobJohnson-FADM: CD (as her friends call her) has been a driving force in MFI for about as long as I've known her. With her roots in MFMC, when the MFMC Commandant stepped down and the Branch needed to be realigned, choosing CD to assist my VIC in heading up the realignment was a "no-brainer".

CD & Sam made a good team in sorting out the site material, streamlining MFMC's administration staff & demographics, as well as interviewing members for Branch positions. This was no easy task and took almost six months.

Along with the MFMC realignment, CD has always been Zone 4's ZC and launched MFI's Charity Task Force. Combine this with keeping a reign on the rest of the CC and coordinate Council Meetings, she's been a very busy girl!!

For always going the extra mile to make sure every task gets completed, constantly bringing new ideas to the table and making sure every member is a "Happy Camper" [Grin] I present Christina (Foam Fishy) Doane with the MFI Commendation Medal (MFICM). Congratulations!

  • RobJohnson-FADM presents Award and shakes awardee's hand
  • ChristinaDoane-Gen accepts the Award and shakes Presenter's hand.

RobJohnson-FADM: Also... For their efforts in heading up the reorganization and reconstruction of MFMC, I award both Christine Doane and Samuel Cummings with the Marine Commendation Medal (MCM).

  • ChristinaDoane-Gen takes one step back and salutes.
  • RobJohnson-FADM returns salute
  • ChristinaDoane-Gen performs an about face and returns to his seat.
  • ChristinaDoane-Gen performs an about face and returns to her seat

RobJohnson-FADM: Gary Davis, Front and Center.

RobJohnson-FADM: Gary and I have been friends for over 15 years. If not for him and his wife Judy, I would not have been introduced to Organized Fandom. Gary has been like a brother to me. He has been a mentor, a sounding board and my conscience during my tenure as IC.

Since I've known him, we've always been on a similar mental bandwidth. When we had an idea for our Trek clubs, before EITHER of us could complete an idea concept, the other one of us could jump in and complete the thought. Gary has, in a sense, been my mental Siamese Twin. [LOL]

When I approached him with limiting the number of positions a manager could hold at each level of MFI, Gary not only Visualized the idea of MFI's Tier System, as well as our own Echelon Badges, but made them a reality.

With the Echelon Badges under his belt, Gary also made a COMPLETE set of Maquis Rank Pins and Marine Pins a reality. Gary Davis is truly an "Idea Man" who has the ability to turn almost any idea into a reality for everyone in MFI to enjoy.

For his successful efforts in making the Tier System/Echelon Badges, Rank Pins and Other pin projects a reality, I present FADM (Ret) Gary Davis with the MFI Commendation Medal (MFICM). Congratulations!

  • RobJohnson-FADM presents Award and shakes awardee's hand

  • GaryDavis-FADM accepts award
  • GaryDavis-FADM salutes and takes a step back
  • RobJohnson-FADM returns the salute
  • GaryDavis-FADM returns to seat

RobJohnson-FADM: This concludes my personal award section as out-going IC.
RobJohnson-FADM: Group. I stand ready to read my orders

Silver Starburst Medal

BarbaraAdams-FCapt: For our final award, unfortunatly the recipient isn't here... Cmdr Jeffery Jones has earned one of MFI's highest awards...
At a convention last year, and I appologize that this took so long to get reconized, Cmdr Jones saved the life of a woman from choking.
He was the only one in the room to react.

For his bravery and quick thinking we are proud to present him with the Silver Starburst Medal

And those are all the awards I have tonight....congratulations to all and thank you for your patience with me.
