Somewhere roughly 4 days before the Havaris Offensive

Deep within the Badlands, MFS Serendipity dropped out of warp and approached a cluster of large asteroids forming a rough sphere over 600 meters in diameter, give or take some. It wasn't exactly a tight ball, neither was it perfect by any measure--however it did provide some cover from a distance. The Captain nodded to the Comm station crewman who sent a short coded burst on a tight beam towards the cluster. In response was a light flashed twice. That is all. As the ship drew nearer, a very large opening came into view on one end. Huge in fact. Within was clearly a Cardassian repair ship, the CDS Borograrg and a Groumall class cargo ship--all 260 meters of it. Various types of shuttles were all over the interior. It resembled the interior of a bees nest with all the activity.

"Time to drop off our cargo" said the Captain, a vulcan named Sessick. A dozen MCE technicians and engineers along with seven pallets of equipment were transported aboard the cargo ship once they docked. The cavernous interior of the cargo bay was barely lit, but the fact that it was filled with huge dark shapes covered with some sort of tarps covered with a metallic mesh was noteworthy. "Sensor Mesh blankets" one of the engineers commented, "they are used to conceal contents by making them appear to be something else".

The Serendipity meanwhile was hosting the new Captain of the cargo ship, a Maquis who was a Cardassian defector/refuge. The ship was the CDS Quave, captured months before at Atbar VI. It had been repaired and updated to meet the needs of the Maquis, including the update of several key systems. The MCE team was being assigned to ensure no surprises interfered with this mission. Captain Sessick handed a PADD to Captain Do-Treaq after inputting his thumbprint. Do-Treaq did the same, unlocking his sealed orders.

"It appears Serendipity will escort my task group to a rendezvous at a set of coordinates located in deep space on the way to Havaris. At that time portions of the Compliance Task Group will meet us to transfer a Marine unit and a SpecOps Team aboard Quave. Quave and our three escorts: CDS Varmuk--a Jannisary class assault ship, CDS Vormorm and CDS Iranthorn--both Hideki class patrol ships shall then proceed to Havaris. We are to blend in with the many ships coming and going and land on the surface near our objectives. Once we begin our assault, our escorts are to provide air support and discourage anyone from getting in our way."

"The other three ships are concealed nearby and are ready to go." Do-Treaq said "We depart in one hour."

Havaris Space

So far so good. The plan was working well. The rendezvous two days ago was quick and the transfer of over 500 personnel was perfectly carried out. Nearly all of SEALS Team 3, a small Medical detachment, a military police detachment, the 327th Mechanized Assault Company (Provisional), and aircrews from the 1316th Aerospace Transportation Squadron (R). A formidable bunch. Not one complaint about the cramped accommodations, at least none that made it up the ranks.

Now the convoy of four Cardassian ships was in a holding orbit over Havaris. Captain Do-Treaq and his fellow Cardassian Maquis aboard the other three ships had no problem being accepted as bona fide Cardassian crew. Their orders were verified by the planetary controllers as legitimate--thanks in no small part to the MCE technicians on-board and the advance SEALS teams already below on-planet. Now they were waiting for final permission to de-orbit and land at the designated field adjacent to Mine number one. Gate Crasher has a priority shipment of "mining equipment" and "explosives" to deliver ASAP.

Landing

De-orbit and landing had begun. And the first real problem cropped up. The CDS Varmuk was denied permission because Havaris planetary control decided they were needed more as part of the orbital defenses. Four additional Hideki class patrol ships were assigned to escort the Quave's priority cargo down along with Vormorm and Iranthorn.
