Holidays & Recurring Events
Seems that we have more and more special dates to remember and plan for. It is time to devote an official page to recognize and track these dates.

Let us use common sense in adding to this list. When there is an actual date, list it in calendar order with a short blurb about what the holiday is. When the event is on a variable date, like the second Tuesday of June list it at the beginning of said month. If the event is a group of days, like labor day Weekend list it as such.

Also try to keep this list to Trek related dates or at least significant holidays that impact Trek events--for planning purposes.

[edit] Founders Day

Once upon a time there were a handful of Star Fleet members, consisting of an XO, a CMO, a Quartermaster and a couple "Border Patrol" members, who were happily meeting on their own to create a self running Computer Roster and "Science Station" for their local Trek chapter. Whenever these members where on their own creating, all was right with the world. Unfortunately, the Ship's Captain, who was heavily into Role Playing, was constantly getting their ship into trouble with SFI Region Two, KAG and KLAW.

Their Captain had a loyal following, who had no idea of what her Senior Staff where enduring. As far as the members knew, their Captain was being unjustly persecuted by the "other groups". After six months of constantly bailing their Captain out of trouble, it hit the band of Fun Seekers! "We have so much fun on our own... Let's branch off and form OUR OWN shuttle!"

They needed 5 Starfleet members to qualify for Shuttle status. They had no aspirations of ever growing beyond Shuttle status, consisting of only the rowdy little band of Fun-Seeking Computer Geeks, So... on Veteran's Day, November 11th, 1993, Gary & Judy Davis, Rob & Kim Johnson, Mark Klinger and Ryan Rosal put their names and Starfleet ID numbers to a piece of paper which would become their Declaration of Independence from the USS Royal Sovereign, becoming the Shuttle Nebula! (Ta-Daaaa!!!)(Fanfare)

To the plucky little band's surprise, potential members started springing out the woodwork! First to join the original five shuttle members were Tom Donohoe and Laura Casey. By the time the "Official Paperwork" returned from Shuttle H.Q., their numbers had grown to 15. They promptly requested change to Runabout status (a completely new concept, never proposed to SFI before), for they technically had too many members to fit into a shuttle and had not yet qualified for "Starship" status. Nebula was the very 1st probationary chapter to be allowed the SFI "Runabout" designation.

By the time half of their probationary period was over, Nebula was up to 30 members strong! Things were looking up in their group's new universe. Unfortunately, shortly after becoming a full fledged Starfleet ship in April of 2004, Star Fleet International became engulfed in a major internal struggle which didn't co-exist with Nebula's Motto of "Fun!!".

Sooo.... As they did once before, they again planned to break away from the "establishment" to ultimately create one of the 1st "Completely" Internet based fan organizations known today as Maquis Forces International.

All because we JUST WANTED TO HAVE FUN (without the complications of POLITICS)!

Happy Anniversary Nebula!
