Memorial Postings

Excerpts from RADM Lewis' guestbook and memorial...

  • Force Admiral Samuel Cummings, MFI:

What I remember most about Carl... his long devotion to Fandom. He'd been Active in STARFLEET over 20 years that *I* know of... (I BELIEVE he joined back in 87...) But he loved everything that Gene Roddenberry's dream stood for... and I'm glad I had a chance to call him a friend.

  • Commodore Gary Hollifield, MFI:

Back when I was a lowly Major in STARFLEET and hadn't even heard of MFI, I was invited to attend Carl and Rita's Trek themed wedding in North Charleston. I pressed my Salt and Peppers, straightened my ribbons, bloused my pants in my boots, and waited for the ceremony to start. Someone walks over to me and asks if I would like to announce the dignitaries, or pipe them aboard. Of course I said yes! There were Admirals and Regional Coordinators and persons of import, all there to celebrate a man, a woman, and their love for each other. I have never been more honored to be in any other procession or ceremony. Carl and Rita have picked me up for travels to Summits and International Conferences. We have had BBQ's together and cookouts together. Carl was more than an officer I just so happened to know, he was a man, a friend. The world is a dimmer place without his light.

  • Captain Jamie Delantonas. MFI:

Back when I was not so well known, Carl was kind enough to let me keep the bowling scores in the league he was in. ( don't know if the league was STARFLEET related, but it did have STARFLEET ships and personnel.) I was the one who added up all the scores and report the actual scores. Also, remember him buying me a picture-puzzle of the ENTERPRISE in a frame at IC03 when I outbid everyone and found out I didn't have enough money, so, he brought it for me. (Yes, I still have the picture-puzzle.) He was a friend to us all in MFI and SFI. He will be missed.

  • Rear Admiral Ruth Lane, SFI:

Carl touched many lives in the short time he was on Earth. He was respected and valued as a member of STARFLEET International Region One. Carl was a very caring and giving man and will be missed by all who was touched by him.

  • Commander JoAnn Nickerson, MFI:

May you rest in peace so you can visit all of the galaxies above us.

  • Chaplain Bill Hermann, SFI:

Carl's long journey into the Undiscovered Country was one of immense pain and suffering. He endured through the last few years with a strength and capacity I believe made possible through the mercy of God and the continuing Prayers of those whom called him friend. I shall miss him. I am honored to have had the privilege of being his Friend and doing what I could to help him during his most difficult times. Time and again when You'd think "this was it" he would fight onwards and refuse to give up. Tenacity and Carl were old Friends up to his passing. I Pray for his wife Rita and Family. May God comfort them in these difficult days.

  • Admiral Steve Lackey, MFI:

It is humbling to see how one man could touch so many lives in such a wonderful way. Rear Admiral Lewis will be long remembered and missed by all of the MFI "Maquis" for a very long time to come. Our thanks to Rita and his family for sharing him with us while he was among us. Our prayers are that this next great journey is a good one for Carl.

  • Vice Admiral V. C. Swindell, SFI:

We are gathered here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. Carl was a person who did the the best he could and gave all he had to the things and people he cared about. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these moment in time. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... caring.”

  • Sergeant Major and Mrs. Kiwi Lane, MFI:

Carl will be sorely missed by all who knew him, both in STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association and in Maquis Forces International. Rita, we grieve with thee.

  • Brigadier General Marc Easterly, MFI:

In a time such as this, it is easy to forget the words spoken. We seem only to remember the faces of those who were there for us. Please know that we of the MFS Impetuous are here.

  • Major General Joost and Brigadier General Susan Ueffing, SFI:

We are so sorry for your loss, Carl will be missed by many and we were privileged to have known him.
