MFS Griffon General Overview

Akira.jpg

When Col Pugh reorganized the 1 MOAB structure and tactics to include the runabout as an effective tool to quickly respond to threats in the Zone, Col Pugh needed a ship that could make an effective carrier platform to launch the runabouts from. Even though the Maquis had made carriers from modified Miranda, Nova and Nebula class starships none of these seemed capable to serve the needs of the Battalion as the Miranda carriers could only hold 7 runabouts and the Nova Carriers could not hold the full compliment of the battalion and the few Nebula carriers in the fleet were converted from its original configuration, and with the Disappearance of the MFS Juno Beach, there was no time to wait for such a massive conversion project.

Col Pugh than turned to the Akira Class, originally designed as a carrier platform for the Kaneda Class Space Superiority Fighters that were close to the size of a Danube class Runabouts very few and quick modifications were needed to be made the Griffon’s flight bay to house the 1 RAS and the MES. Other modifications to the Griffon included. Additional armories were added for the battalions weapons, modified sleeping quarters (Barrack style) to house the additional 731 marines of the 1MOAB.

The Griffon is crewed by Maquis Naval crew members who are under a separate command from the Marines that serve in the Battalion. Eventhough Col Pugh maintains command over the Ship and the Battalion Col Pugh will direct all orders for the Griffon through her Captain. The Senior officers of both the Battalion and the Griffon work closely together to ensure all operations run smoothly.

The MFS Griffon is currently in space dock undergoing upgrades and modifications to better serve the 1MOAB new reorganization process
