Composite Graphic Examples

  • PLEASE NOTE: the following examples are the result of composite graphic wiki coding. In other words, a single base reference image has one or more secondary images superimposed on top of it referenced to the position of the base image.
  • Confused? Please check the coding in edit mode.
  • As an example, this is the coding used for the top, left composite image below.

Research Topics and Article Ideas

  • Keeping Informed and the Most Important Page in MFIwiki
  • "Remora" probe
  • Ablative armour - [content from Daystrom Institute Tech Library - a Great resource!]
was originally developed for the USS Defiant; the Borg had proven their ability to penetrate Federation shields with ease during their encounter with the Enterprise at system J-252, and the Defiant designers wanted the ship to have a degree of protection even if the shields should be overcome in the expected future encounters.
The value of the armour was proven when the Defiant came up against Dominion forces. Like the Borg, the Dominion were able to penetrate Federation shielding systems relatively easily in the first years of hostility between the two powers, and the Defiant's ablative armour allowed the ship to withstand attacks that would have otherwise caused significant damage.
Recently there has been a massive revolution in this technology with the appearance of the ablative armour generator. This device was given to the crew of the USS Voyager by a future version of Admiral Janeway, who travelled back in time to the ship in order to assist them in returning home from the Delta Quadrant. The generator involves a series of devices placed onto the hull of a vessel; when activated these replicate a layer of armour over the surface of the ship. The effectiveness of armour is considerable. The system Voyager employed was able to withstand a simultaneous attack by several Borg cubes. One of the most useful features of this system is that as it can be materialised and dematerialised as needed, even weapons systems can be covered over when they are not actually in use. This gives a much greater degree of coverage than any standard armour protection which must leave permanent apetures to operate such systems through.
At time of writing Starfleet had had relatively little time to asses this technology, but it was simple to adapt it for use on Voyager without spacedock or any outside support, indicating that it should be reasonably easy for the remainder of Starfleet's ships to create ablative armour generators for themselves. This should multiply the hull strength of the fleet massively at a single stroke.

Maquis Research - Aceton Technology

  • Please feel free to add your ideas and notes to this discussion.

  • Based on Research initiated by FADM Johnson:
Class VI "Aceton" Probe - [ref data on basic probes can be found HERE under "systems" ]
Borrowing on the technology used in the "Aceton Assimilators", Maquis R&D has been able to modify the Federation Class VI probes to drain a vessel's RCS Batteries at a constant rate, as well as deleting their Deuterium, directly proportional to the amount of power expended by an enemy in order to escape. Unlike the Aceton Assimilators, MFI probes would not emit a deadly radiation of any sort, simply act as a collector/damper.
(10/9's Note) The emission of deadly radiation referred to above most likely means re-emission of radiation used as a weapon. There still may exist secondary Hazards to personnel in close proximity to these probes while they are active. Also note that these probes would have an upper limit to the amount of "damage" they could do because of energy storage concerns. Since they do not actively re-emit deadly radiation, there is no place to dump excess energy assimilated.
Possible development might lead to using this excess energy to replicate additional probes to multiply their (energy drain) effectiveness vs an enemy. Another possibility might be developed to channel the assimilated energy to power a transporter which would move the "full" probe further away from the target minimizing secondary radiation lethiality.
"Aceton" Torpedo
Thor's Photon Torpedoes have also been modified to encase power assimilating warheads which will react to negate the enemy vessel's Anti-matter stores, rendering it unable to escape (or pursue).
(10/9's Note) Again there may still be secondary radiation hazards to personnel within the effective envelope of the weapons discharge.
  • The following applications of this technology must also be explored and developed:
"Aceton" Power Converters/Generators
In areas such as the Badlands that frequently experience extreme atmospheric energy discharges, this technology should allow the conversion of this energy to useable/storable power. Depending on environmental hazards associated with operation of these generators [in that they may be dangerous to personnel working in the vicinity of their use] their use may be restricted to unmanned outposts or defensive hardpoints.
"Aceton" Shields
Research must continue into negating secondary hazardous radiation associated with this technology. Once done, shields would be possible. Such shields would be effective against all forms of energy weapons and also work as a deflector for high energy fields. Note that they would probably NOT be useable while a ship is generating a warp field. They also might interferre with communications. Other forms of shielding would be required to offset these weaknesses and to protect from projectile type weapons and debris.
Such shields will soon be possible for unmanned installations. Again there will still be an impact on communications to consider.
"Aceton" Counter Battery Defenders
Unmanned counter battery weapons might be developed to absorb enemy energy weapon fire and convert/re-direct the same energy into automated return phaser banks.
"Remora" device
Maquis R&D has developed a smaller version of the Aceton technology which is intended for non-lethal, stealthy use against shuttles and small ships below cruiser size. The Remora actually is beamed into the path of the intended target and utilizes micro manuvering thrusters to attach itself to the hull of the target ship as it closes. Once attached, the Remora then starts to drain the target vessel's RCS Batteries at a constant rate, as well as deleting their Deuterium, directly proportional to the amount of power expended by an enemy in order to escape. Once the Remora approaches capacity saturation, the device detaches from the target and self-destructs after the target has drifted away. The time before detonation can be remotely modified or pre-set to happen sooner, thus inflicting additional damage.
Testing results suggests that small shuttles and runabouts could be disabled for a day or more. Larger vessels are expected to be disabled a minimum of two hours, especially if the self destruct happens sooner inflicting structural damage to the outer hull. The explosive effects are considered less significant than the power drain effects.
