Staff Sergeant Raymond McCloud was ordered to take his Squad and clear out any remaining mercenary’s in the city. The enemy forces were in full retreat after the major offensive that began early that morning with heavy air support, Maquis Starfighters had spent hours strafing and bombing anything that moved. The enemy air support being knocked out early in the attack and no longer a threat to the Marines on the ground.

The cool morning air soon gave way to summer warmth as McCloud’s Squad walked slowly down the street constantly scanning their surroundings. Their Dragon Slayer Battle Armor keeping them comfortable from the warm sun with it’s built in environmental system.

Private First Class Bren Joran was on point armed with a phaser rifle. PFC Gabriella Vasquez was next in line with a minigun, a 6mm belt fed bullet hose she had nicknamed “Meatchopper”. They were followed by Lance Corporal Alex Fortunado armed with a phaser rifle with a grenade launcher slung under the barrel.

The Opposing Forces the Marines had encountered since landing had been a mix of Human, Orion, Cardassian, Klingons, Romulans and even a few Andorians. Orions have a reputation for ruthlessness and cunning in combat. Not an hour before their squad had faced two full squads of Orion battle armor and won out only by the skin of their teeth.
The Orion battle armor was similar to the Dragon Slayer suits the Marines now wore, with the exception of using disruptor weapons. Similar enough to make SSGT McCloud wonder if the Orions had somehow gotten their hands on copies of original plans.

There was a platoon of Marine hover tanks nearby clearing out the remaining enemy armor that SSGT McCloud had the option of calling on if need be. The heavy phaser cannons would easily take out any mercenaries hiding in the neighborhood.

Staff Sergeant McCloud armed with his own phaser/grenade launcher brought the squad to a quick halt near a residential block that had reportedly been inhabited by enemy soldiers. The squad fanned out around the nearest house. PFC Joran raised his armored foot kicking in the door while the rest of the squad covered him. The door swung open and he quickly moved inside with the rest of the squad following.
They moved through the house, room to room, first floor, second floor with lightning speed. There were signs the enemy had been here and recently, maybe as recently as a few hours ago when the enemy command have issued the retreat.

McCloud’s Squad moved through several more houses again finding ransacked interiors but nothing else. Outside they could hear the roar of Gryphon Starfighters flying by. The noise was deafening even in the battle armored suits. The sound of weapons fire could be heard a few blocks away must be another Squad of Light Horse Infantry clearing their sector.
McCloud’s Squad exited the house and quietly moved through the back yard of the next house. Suddenly they came under heavy fire from mercenary battle armor from the windows on the back of the house.

They returned fire with PC Vasquez’s chain gun laying down a heavy barrage, the sound of the gun almost deafening. Armor piercing rounds pock marked the back of the house around all of the windows, driving the mercenaries back. One dead mercenary battle armor Trooper fell through the window he had been hiding behind and crashed into the shrubs in the back yard.
The Squad suffered only minor damage to their suits. After a quick check they began slowly towards the back of the wrecked house, much of the damage caused by PFC Vasquez’s chain gun.

McCloud fired three grenades into the back of the house in rapid succession splintering furniture and shredding anything within their blast radius.

They moved through the kitchen and into the living room were they encountered more enemy disruptor fire the enemy fired grenades towards the Marines striking Bren Jorans armor as he was first into the doorway. The blast blowing large holes in his armor and, knocking him off his feet. The rest of the Squad poured fire into the room where the grenades had come from. Both sides exchanged heavy fire for nearly a minute. For McCloud it seemed like an hour. One by one the enemy battle armor was taken down by the Marines. When the fire stopped there were eight mercenary battle armor twisted and thrown around in the next room. Seven Humans and one Orion, possible their leader lay dead. Everyone in the squad was damaged but, nothing too serious. Bren Joran on the other hand was serious. Bren had wounds to his torso and one of his legs but, the battle armor had built in stimulants to help ease the pain of the Marine wearing the armor. A bio foam began injecting itself inside the suit to stem the bleeding of the young Marine. He was able to stand and walk but the medications would not hold for very long. The Squad quickly searched the rest of the house while McCloud double checked Bren’s condition. Sergeant McCloud needed to get Bren to the Corpsman as soon as possible. After he got the “All Clear” from Vasquez he put in a call for medical assistance.

His Squad had survived another day and McCloud was glad of that.
