<Video clip taken outside MFMC HQ where a young female Marine Major steps up to a podium>

Good afternoon, I am Major Adrian Heeth, Public Information Officer MFMC. Tue April sixth at seventeen forty seven hours, Major General Rigel McBain, having lost nearly seventy percent of his Command, surrendered himself to enemy forces to buy the escape of his remaining men. No other information is being released at this time, pending the notification of his family on Earth, thank you.

<A cacophony of questions are hurled at the Major>

I'm sorry I have no further comments at this time, thank you.

Immediately after the capture of Major General McBain Maquis Special Operations Command issued orders to all Stations and Operatives enacting the "Damocles Protocol". This protocol, designed after the Dominion War states that any key Maquis Official, military or otherwise must be immediately recovered from enemy hands or, barring that is to be killed before they can divulge any vital information on the Maquis, its Government or, its Peoples.

Below is the decoded message;

BEGIN TRANSMISSION:
ODT-SOC TO ALL UNITS
STANDBY FOR ORDERS
INITIATE DAMOCLES PROTOCOL
ASSET STONEWALL TAKEN IN ACTION 58542.43 BARKON IV
RECAPTURE OR TERMINATE ASSET
WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE
END TRANSMISSION

With the announcement of the orders, several Delta Teams already in theater went on alert. Numerous on-scene SOC Assets went into action to locate Stonewall and try to bring about his rescue.

On Stardate 58561.18 (Wed Apr 14 2382 04:45:00) during the insertion of an SOC Delta Team, one of those on-scene units recovered Colonel Tyler Pugh near the insertion site.

A few hours later the announcement came through that McBain had been killed in action by Mercenary Forces on Barkon VI.

Following is that announcement:

BEGIN TRANSMISSION
PRIORITY: ALPHA OMICRON CHARLIE / SPECIAL
CIRCULATE TO ALL MAQUIS COMMANDS

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening. Upon receipt of report from an SOC Delta Team tasked with ascertaining Rigel McBain's location, I have been apprised that MGEN McBain has been confirmed killed by enemy action on Barkon IV, Stardate 58561.18. Our thoughts and prayers go to MGEN McBain's family and co-workers.

This cowardly act shall not go unavenged by the Maquis.

CDRE David W. Ferber
Director, Special Operations Command

END TRANSMISSION

This announcement was made in the hope that it would lessen the impact and true reasons behind his death.

Below is a copy of the report from that Delta Team and the path the message followed back to the Maquis HQ.

FORWARDED MESSAGE:
EYES ONLY THE COORDINATOR

Madame Coordinator,

I have just finished reading this report and felt it would be best to forward immediately to you the news. It is with deepest sympathy that I relay to you that the mission to rescue MGen Rigel McBain has failed. To worsen matters, the Team sent on the mission has effectively been destroyed and due to circumstances of the situation, the Team Commander deemed it necessary (per his orders) to give the execution order to one of his teammates. MGen McBain has been to the best ability of the on-scene personnel declared killed in action.

Regards,

Ferber, David
Director, Special Operations Command

BEGIN MESSAGE:

Mr. Director,

Following is the report of Lieutenant Commander Gavin Etheridge Officer in Charge, Five Delta. To remind (if I may) the Director, Five Delta was tasked with the recovery of Stonewall.

LCDR Errol Carmichael (Station Chief)
Luna One Five station

BEGIN REPORT:

I am Gavin Etheridge, Lieutenant Commander and OIC of Five Delta. My team had deployed to Barkon IV via SOC PAVE Intruder runabout at 04:45 hours on Stardate 58561.18 (Wed Apr 14 2382 04:45:00)

Our mission was to either recover Stonewall from enemy hands or ensure that he would not be able to divulge any information that could harm the Maquis.

I deployed my team in a semicircle around the Southwest side of the building, with Snipers on the East and South sides. First element made a “soft” entry of side two, (the West side of the building). Second element made a “soft” entry of side three (the South side) while third element made entry through the basement level on side four. The security forces were quietly dispatched in less then three minutes. The Principal was located on level four in a large room shackled to a metal grate. Second element entered the room and neutralized three hostiles. The Principal was stabilized by the teams Medic and we made for the ground floor for our exfil. When we made the landing on the second floor, we encountered a large force of hostiles coming up the stairs towards our location. We made for the roof under heavy fire. Second element remained in the stairwell to buy us enough time to get the PAVE Intruder to our location. As we made our exit of the stairs onto the roof, a large force of enemy came onto the roof from the stars on side one. I ordered the teams Snipers to open fire on the hostiles and we gave them everything we had. Sir, it was like they knew we were coming or, at least were ready in case we did. In the time it took to get the bird over the building we were overrun. I took a phaser blast to the side as they swarmed us, and we lost control of the Principal as the PAVE Intruder came in overhead. The few of my team left piled into the PAVE and I ordered my number one Sniper to take down the Principal. She fired and I saw him go down in a blood spray but, I nor my remaining team members can give more confirmation than that.

Sir, I lost over three quarters of my team and we weren’t even able to recover their bodies. I stand ready to accept whatever repercussion that comes for the loss of my team.

END REPORT
END MESSAGE

Despite the best of intentions, the news brought with it a severe drop in the morale of the Maquis military.
