Glossary of Terms:

AEROSPACE

AEW:
Airborne Early Warning.

AIMD:
Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department.

BARCAP:
Barrier Combat Air Patrol.

BCG:
Battleship Combat Group.

BDA:
Bomb Damage Assessment, or battle damage assessment, often referred to as BDA, is the practice of assessing damage inflicted on a target by an air campaign. It is part of the larger discipline of combat assessment (CA). Assessment is performed using many techniques including footage from in-weapon cameras, from gun cameras, forces on the ground near the target, and follow-up visits to the target.

CAP:
Combat Air Patrol.

CAG:
Commander Air Group.

CATCC:
"Catsea" Control Center.

CBG:
Carrier Battle Group.

CNO:
Chief of Naval Operations.

COD:
Carrier On-board Delivery. Mail, Ect.

CSAR:
Combat Search And Rescue. Search and rescue operations that are carried out during war that are within or near combat zones

CVIC:
"Civic" Carrier Intelligence Center.

JBD:
Jet Blast Deflector.

LAMPS:
Light Airborne Multi Purpose System.

RAG:
Reserve Air Group.

TARCAP:
Target Combat Air Patrol. An aerospace craft patrol provided over an objective area, over the force protected, over the critical area of a combat zone, or over an air defense area, for the purpose of intercepting and destroying hostile aerospace craft before they reach their target. Combat air patrols apply to both overland and space operations, protecting vessels, fixed and mobile sites on land, and ships in space.

Target Recognition and Attack Multi Sensor.

TASS:
Tactical Air Support Squadron.

TEWS:
Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron.

RESCAP:
Reserve Combat Air Patrol.

UNREP:
Underway Replenishment.


GENERAL


AIDE DE CAMP:
A military officer acting as secretary and confidential assistant to a superior officer of general or flag rank. Also called a "Dog Robber".

ARRG:
Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Group.

A.W.O.L. :
Absent Without Leave,

BATTALLION:
A standard battalion consists of three companies (thirty-six Mekks or vehicles) under the command of a colonel or major. Frequently, battalions include a command lance that provides mobile command and logistical support. In some battalions, attached aerospace lances are organized as separate companies or squadrons. A battalion that consists solely of aerospace squadrons is often referred to as a wing. A standard battalion comprised solely of infantry troops consists of three companies (252 men).

BATTERY:
The artillery equivalent of a Company.

BLUE ON BLUE ENCOUNTER:
An accidental attack on one's own forces by their own or allied forces.

BRIGADE:
1. A military unit consisting of a variable number of combat battalions or regiments. 2. An MFMC administrative and tactical unit composed of a headquarters unit, at least one unit of infantry or armor or both, and designated support units. A brigade can be commanded by a brigadier general or by a colonel.

BROKEN ARROW:
Phrase used by Maquis ground force units to announce they are in danger of being overrun. In this situation all available air support is called in to relieve the unit in trouble.

CHIEF OF THE BOAT:
Is an enlisted sailor on board a Maquis Naval vessel who serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the commanding officer and executive officer, and assists with matters regarding the good order and discipline of the crew. The Chief of the Boat is the "in space" equivalent of a Command Master Chief in shore and surface units. There is only one COB on a vessel and he is generally responsible for the day-to-day operations of the vessel, the morale and the training of the boat's enlisted personnel. The COB is typically the most senior enlisted man; however, the commanding officer is neither required to select the highest ranking sailor nor the most senior in grade or time aboard. Likewise, the COB is not necessarily replaced when a more senior sailor reports aboard.

COMBAT THEATER:
A specific geographical area of conduct of armed conflict, bordered by areas where no combat is taking place.

COMPANY:
The standard company consists of three lances (twelve Mekks or vehicles) under the command of a captain. Occasionally a fourth lance of aerospace fighters will be assigned to the company to reinforce the primary Mekk units. A company comprised solely of aerospace fighters is often reffered to as a squadron. A standard company comprised solely of infantry troops consists of three platoons (eigthy four men).

CORPS:
s either a large formation, or an administrative grouping of troops within an armed force with a common function such as Artillery or Signals representing an arm of service.

DAR:
Director of Aerospace Rescue.

DROPSHIP:
Dropship is a generic term for any shuttlecraft whose purpose is ferrying troops and equipment between a ship and the planets surface. Dropships can carry Mekks, Aerospace fighters, or other cargo including passengers.

DOG ROBBER:
An aide to a general officer whose duties are so varied as to defy explanation. Typically used in reference to an "Aide De Camp", someone who would even rob the family dog to get something his General needed.

DIVISION:
A unit composed of several regiments or brigades.

ECM:
Electronic Counter Measures.

ER:
Extended Range.

EWO:
Electronic Warfare Officer.

GAUSS RIFLE:
The Gauss Rifle accelerates a large piece of metal at tremendous speeds through magnetic means rather than relying upon chemical propellants. The Gauss Rifle has extremely long range, delivers heavy damage while generating very little heat. The weapon explodes catastrophically when it suffers critical damage.

HGR:
Heavy Gauss Rifle.

JURY-RIG:
To repair partially.

LRM:
Long Range Missile.

LANCE:
The lance is the smallest organizational unit commonly used for Mekks or vehicles. The standard lance consists of four Mechs or vehicles under the command of a lieutenant. The standard aerospace lance consists of two aerospace fighters and associated technical personnel.

MALINGERING:
Faking an illness, or injury to escape hazardous duty.

M.A.S.H. :
Mobile Army Surgical Hospital.

MEKK:
Instrument of war, first fielded by Starfleet. They have since become the dominant force on terrestrial battlefields.

M.I.A. :
Missing in Action,

MRM:
Medium Range Missile.

NARC:
The meaning of this acronym is no longer clear, but it refers to a missile system capable of delivering a variety of payloads including shaped charges and various electronics.

OFFICER OF THE DECK:
OOD, Naval officer in charge of the ship. The OOD represents the Commanding officer.

PAVE INVADER:
Designation for a Danube class runabout reconfigured for Special Operations use. The craft are fitted with a myriad of special sensors, cloaking, medical equipment and, navigation systems used to covertly deploy and recover SEALS, Marine Recon and various Special Operations forces. Because of the nature of the sensors and other systems on the craft, they are invisible to sensors and the naked eye. Craft of the PAVE designation are easily identified by their matte black skin when not cloaked.

PAVE SEHLAT:
Designation for a Danube class runabout heavily modified with a myriad of special sensors, cloaking, navigation systems and, various support weapons systems. The primary role of the PAVE Sehlat is close air support of SEALS, Marine Recon and various Special Operations forces in need of support. Because of the nature of the sensors and other systems on the craft, they are invisible to sensors and the naked eye. Craft of the PAVE designation are easily identified by their matte black skin when not cloaked.

PLATOON:
The standard platoon consists of four squads (twenty-eight men) under the command of a lieutenant. The standard jump platoon (infantry equipped with jump packs) consists of three squads (twenty-one men).

P.L.D.C. :
Primary Leadership Development Course,

P.O.W. :
Prisoner of War.

PRAIRIE FIRE:
Code phrase used by Special Operations teams and Marine Recon teams that are in danger of being overrun. This phrase brings in close air support units and an emergency extraction team to assist in the recovery of the endangered team.

PSB:
Personal Survival Beacon.

R.C.T. :
The standard regimental combat team consists of one regiment of Mekks, three regiments of armored vehicles, five infantry regiments, one artillery battalion and two aerospace fighter wings under the command of a general.

RL:
Rocket Launcher.

REGIMENT:
A standard regiment consists of three to five battalions (108 to 180 Mekks or vehicles) under the command of a general or colonel. Dropships or jumpships are usually attached to specific regiments, as are support battalions such as infantry or tank battalions. A standard regiment comprised solely of infantry troops consists of three battalions (756 men). Support battalions used

SARC:
Search And Rescue Center.

SRM:
Short Range Missile.

SQUAD:
The squad is the smallest infantry organizational group. The standard squad consists of seven men under the command of a sergeant.

THUNDER:
A special LRM ammunition type that does not attack an enemy target directly but instead deploys a minefield at a designated location. The size of the minefield so deployed depends upon the size of the missile launcher firing the munition.

ULTRA:
Denotes a special type of autocannon, one capable of firing at double (ultra) rate. Ultra ACs are prone to jamming when the firing circuitry experiences a failure requiring a technician to repair.
