Sien'ael i-Ra'tleihfi t'Hwaerianh is the oldest daughter of Senator (deihu) Atalan e'Tei tr'Hwaerianh (a retired naval admiral) and his wife Thea i-Mheissan t'Hwaerianh, a priestess serving in the capital of the Romulan Empire, Val'danadex Trel (known in Old Rihannsu as Ra'tleihfi). She was named for Thea's grandmother, Captain (Enarrain) Sien'ael i'Sathe t'Hwaerianh, commander of the Star Navy's Ralok-class Starbird S'tirex.
Sien'ael was brought up in the traditions of s'Hwaerianh, a family that cherished honor & D'era, and respected Mnhei'sahe, as reflected in their motto, "Strength and Honor from Above" (Fveinn u’khlinae hel aerrh).
When Sien'ael reached the age for her Pylanzi (citizenship ritual), she not only affirmed her allegiance to the Empire, but to her house. Her uncle & house leader (hru'Hfirh), Admiral Lhaes ir-Aihai tr'Hwaerianh, gave her a dagger (neca) and a pendant engraved with the house crest. She began training with house Weaponsmaster Rhian e-Llweii tr'Hwaerianh and studying academic & spiritual topics with her parents, in preparation for her Serona. Under Weaponsmaster Rhian, Sien'ael showed a aptitude for the traditional neca & vrelnec (sword), but also learned the basics of the lirash and the kailune (throwing blade). Her academic tendencies leaned toward logistics, helping her mother with shopping for basic household needs.
Sien'ael's Serona was served on the Deresus-class heavy scout V'tirex, where she served as Prime Logistics Officer. V'tirex was part of the Star Navy fleet that supported operations in the Tiber Sector. After her five-year obligation ended, Sien'ael returned home to help oversee the Hwaerianh estate's grain commodities, which had become sought after by some of the best ale brewers in the region.
The Dominion War, however, saw eight valued members of s'Hwaerianh killed in the Battle for the Chin'toka System, including Weaponsmaster Rhian. Sien'ael's uncle, Admiral Lhaes, turned over the house leadership to his daughter, Tal Shiar General Dhael i-Ra'tleihfi t'Hwaerianh. Sien'ael, who had become a Galan and priestess-in-training by this time, was asked by the new hru'Hfirh to help reestablish the Hwaerianh estate's chapel, which had fallen into disuse two generations before.
Sien'ael spent several months overseeing the restoration of the chapel building, inside and outside. With assistance from her mother Thea, Sien'ael rededicated the chapel to the Elements, specifically Jaeih (Air), almost a year after the Battle for the Chin'toka System.
