Platform and Commentary for Samuel Cummings, Candidate for International Coordinator

I see many wonderful things taking place in MFI -- the friendships, the fun, the excitement, the common thing we all hold together, and that's a love for our favorite show, STAR TREK! Who would have thought back in the 60's that one pilot episode of a show about a space captain on a small ship called ENTERPRISE would have wound up being so popular, and grow into an almost cult-like following? I wouldn't have!

Like Gene Roddenberry's creation, Maquis Forces International started off in much the same way. Disheartened with many of the internal affairs of another fanclub, one ship stood up and claimed it's rightful place in Fandom -- to become the "Maquis Forces," a small group of ships joined up, in a way to maintain a network of contact with each other... it wasn't expected to grow THAT much. But it did -- until we hit where we are today -- over ten years later and over 500 strong! I've been pleased to be a part of the most dynamic, fun and challenging organization that I think that the Star Trek Fandom Circle has ever seen. Entering as a high school student in the early days of 2003, I never would have thought that *I* of all people would have had the opprotunity to take part in the election to become the top dog of MFI -- but here we are, three years later! I loved serving in the Academy, and taking part in the awesome team that is Computer Operations, and I would like to move a little farther ahead, and work with the awesome team that is all of YOU!

One of my plans as International Coordinator isn't JUST based on recruitment -- it's based on retention. I have a comprehensive retention plan that will, if successful, help not only generate recruiting, but help keep the members we have. I want to have an open-door policy with not only the CC members, but to each and every member. I do plan to keep the "Hands off" policy in force -- but if there's somthing YOU, as "Joe Member" think that we can do to help improve relations or organizational management, I'm all up for hearing it! I want to hear what YOU want; MFI isn't just for us in the Coordinator Council, it's for YOU too!

One thing you may have noticed is our lack of a Chief of Communications -- I've decided to merge this position in with the Chief of Staff; because the position is mostly the Editor of the Newsletter, and we felt that eliminating a position on the Coordinator Council would be the best idea as our "back to the basics" approach to policy kicks in.

Back in 1994, a newly pipped Starfleet Captain had a vision, a vision of which chapters united in the common interest in fandom could relate without many of the political and internal problems other such organizations have faced. I plan on keeping it that way, to continue Gary Davis' and the rest of the MFS Nebula crew's vision of a stable, healthy, friendly organization to where prejudice and intolerance are NOT commonplace.

I appreciate your time in reading my thoughts and experiences in what is Maquis Forces International, and would appreciate your vote in the 2006 Elections.
