Definitions:

MFI LEVEL AWARDS: An award for which the Awards Department determines the criteria and representation. Awards can be Academy or Service based awards. Academy awards are authorized by confirmation of a passing grade on a particular exam by the Academy Commandant. Service awards are awarded by their individual criteria established by the Awards Department.

BRANCH LEVEL AWARDS:An award for which the head of the Special Interest Department determines the criteria and representation save for the representation of the ribbons listed below.

ZONE LEVEL AWARDS: An award for which the Zone Coordinator determines the criteria and representation save for the representation of the ribbons listed below.

CHAPTER LEVEL AWARDS: An award for which the Chapter Chairperson or Chapter Designee(s) determine the criteria and representation save for the representation of the ribbons listed below.

Types of awards:

There are four basic types of awards authorized by the MFI.

Medals - MFI is currently negotiating to produce our own medals. MFI does recognize those medals earned by members from other International Groups (I.G.'s). Wearing of other I.G.'s medals is authorized for MFI members. Refer to the issuing group for their order of precedence, following the MFI model below.

Ribbons - MFI produces ribbons using those from various sources (see below links). Although these are real ribbons from either the Civil Air Patrol or from the US Military, we take great effort to alter the "base" ribbon so as to avoid the appearance that we as an organization are misrepsenting ourselves by wearing these ribbons. Since these become unique to MFI, these are "legal" for our members to then wear as they do not exist elsewhere.

Devices - Devices are obtained from the sources below and although are the actual devices used by the Civil Air Patrol and the US Military, we use them in different manners, combinations, and ribbons to again avoid the appearance that we are misrepresenting ourselves.

Paper Certificates - Using this method of award gives MFI the freedome of expression through free formats as deciced upon by the awarding authority. Those awarding authorities should ahere to standards which don't conflict with other authorities on a peer to peer level to avoid confusion (i.e. Coordinator Council (CC) awards should resmemble those issued by other CC members' awards. Branches have more freedom since they are entities until themsvels, however, they should adhere to some pre-agreed on general format. Chapters can choose whicever format they choose and enjoy the broadest form of freedom of expression.

Medals and Ribbons are worn on the following Order of Precedence:

MFI International Awards in the order listed below
MFI SID Level Awards
MFI Zone Level Awards
MFI Chapter Level Awards
Outside International Fan Club Awards
