Maquis Forces International Simm. Division

Role-Playing Interface

UNDER DEVELOPMENT

The Maquis Forces International Simm. Division has found a need to employ a simple role-playing interface that can support role-playing and all necessary add-ons but still maintain a link to the mother organisation. Samuel Bibb, finding the OpenSource Systems that are available to be to a degree "non-suitable" set off with a new directive, to create a new System.

This new system, so named DSpace is powered via MySQL and PHP employing a wide range of features that are indeed suitable for our use.

Outlined below are the features of the system and then the defined access levels.

Basic Ship Page: All Role-Playing Areas (The individual ship) are so granted a page on this system which serves as the front-cover. Whilst functionality for further additions are available, this has been disabled in favour of additional pages being hosted solely on the Wiki.

Automated Roster: All Role-Playing Areas (The individual ship) are so granted a roster displayed at the bottom of their Basic Ship Page. This is automated and reflects additions, updates and deletions immediately.

Captain's Log: All Role-Playing Areas (The individual ship) are so granted a Captain's Log specific to their board to which the CO may edit. This is accessible by a tab at the top-corner of every internal system page

Notes Area: All Role-Playing Areas (The individual ship) are so granted a Notes Area which houses all Role-Playing Posts both In-Character and Out-Of-character. This is tied into the roster system. As a character has to be assigned to a user, in the "Note-Entry" Form, a character drop-down is displayed where a user can select his/her character. The character selected from this is the name that will appear as the author. If none are selected, the user's name in the format First Name Last Name will appear. Notes are displayed in a "threaded" view similar to a certain extent of a forum but somewhat easier to view.

Account Page: All players receive an account which they can log into. The system supports multiple characters which means in the event of expansion, users can hold characters on multiple ships and indeed multiple characters on each individual ship. This will be useful in the long-term when NPC support is activated.. NPC's won't be listed on the roster with standard characters but will appear in the character drop-down and on the users account.

At this stage, D-Space' software has been developed but will not be introduced for some time.
