Memorial Day Defensive FAQ -

1. What Is the MDD? The Memorial Day Defensive - MDD for short - is both a commemorative and role-play event, as cells and individuals choose to participate, meant to show respect and observance of the United States Memorial Day weekend holiday,

2. What is so special about participating in this event? First, you get a cool logo design for each year's MDD event that is held in which you participate added to your Cell's page. Secondly, depending on your branch of affiliation, it is a way to be nominated and earn ribbon awards in Marine, Naval, SOC or SSD branches, or (potentially) those corresponding with similar awards in the KTF or MRL.

3. What types of activities count toward the MDD event? Much like the LDO, there are a number of activities you and your fellow cell members might share in, one that is immediately recognized is taking part in the annual role-play event. Another might be performing maintenance (clean up), placing flags or flowers at grave sites or monuments, or standing vigil at a memorial site. (Remember to get permission from those in authority or ownership of the property before you decide to do this.) Building a float or marching in a local Memorial Day parade, or even manning a booth for a charity at a Memorial Day BBQ or Fair are also ways to take part. Consider other options, if those don't appeal; and if you are unsure, send a note to the SSD Director to ask if your idea would be appropriate.

4. How do I join in the Role-Play event? Send a message to the SSD Director and assistant (currently me, Brian Pickett, and David Breland - if you need our email addresses, please ask me.) so that they can help assign you a mission objective that you can carry out. As this is a time-sensitive event, there will be a deadline that your reports must be in to receive credit for participation.

If you are taking part, we would like to know if it's just you as a solitary agent, of if you are part of a team (if so, who your team-mates are), which branch you are working within (Fleet, Marine, SSD, SOC, KTF, MRL), your Zone affiliation, rank, position and/or ship/unit/posting.

5. How long does the MDD last? It begins Friday Night/Saturday Morning of Memorial Day weekend, and concludes two weeks (on Sunday) afterward.

6. Any other questions? Please ask the SSD Director, directly. Thank you.
