Starfleet Vessels Attacked
A small skirmish between Maquis and Starfleet forces broke out near the planet of Valo. Starfleet reported that several Maquis ships left Maquis space and engaged Starfleet, their have been no reports that there were any casualties from either side. Starfleet states that two starships were disabled by the Maquis as they were attempting to scan a trade convoy heading to the planet. The Maquis have denied the action saying there were no Maquis Naval assets in the area.
The Federation response was to recall all diplomatic personal from the Maquis and have now ordered Starfleet to set up a blockade on both the Cardassian and Federation borders of the Maquis territory. The Maquis have stated that this action would be taken as an act of aggression and that the Maquis will do what is necessary to ensure that the flow of supplies are getting in. The Maquis have also warned that any Federation ship preventing goods from entering Maquis space will be met with force. Since the Valo incident both the Maquis and Starfleet have begun a massive military build up, there have been reports that the Federation has also pulled ships off the Romulan Border. This reporter interviewed the Ambassador to the Maquis who told this reporter that “Starving the Maquis may be the only way to bring them back to the negotiation table, but warned that the Maquis forces are use to fighting overwhelming enemies from their days as a rebel organization fighting both the Federation and the Cardassians, the Dominion and even now they continue to fight rogue members of the Cardassian military. The Maquis was a nation born of fire and they could still do some damage. They should not be taken lightly. Since the recent incident Starfleet has placed a communication black out to and from Maquis space and could not reach anyone from the Maquis for a statement. With Starfleet building up its forces and the Maquis already using force it seems that now peace may have eluded us and that another time of war will come it is just a matter who strikes the first blow. May the prophets watch us.
