Talk:Domain Project

This is a hold over from the old website. Heck this is from close to 6-8 years ago and nothing has ever really been done. I believe that the original intent was to set things up for the individual ships to have their own websites on a central server or something like that. Using a MFIWiki splash page would certainally fulfill that intent. Logan

Actually, The Domain Project used to be what we now have with Wiki... Members having their own Chapter Web Pages. We had about 10 people who used Maquis.com to host their Web Sites (like Laura, Tom, Gary, myself and a few others).

We could keep this around to discussways to raise funds to keep Maquis.com funded. Just a thought, [[User:Rob-J|Rob-sig-sm.jpg Rob J, IC]] 20:02, 26 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Domain questions and more...

One

Now would be a really good time to publish a wiki page listing any basic rules-of-thumb that Leadership thinks necessary concerning member wiki page creation and contribution.

It has been said ONLY "one User page per Member" and an attempt has been made at establishing naming conventions. [Note: see Herding Cats]

What about Unit pages? Ships, LPs, Consulates, etc... What about Special Events? Fundraisers? Booths in the Promenade?

What reasonable limits are there? Is there a point where, above "X" number of pages, a contribution to the server fund must be made [per year]?

Two

I know that since the beginning, a few core players have volunteered to foot the bill for web expenses. Since we have PayPal set up, why not create a page Contribute to the MFI Server Fund? Try it on a VOLUTARY basis. Provide some basic information on recurring maintenance expenses, maybe show an accounting of the most recent years expenses, provide a link to the PayPal page [perhaps thru the Quartermaster maybe?], and provide links to the Leadership [CC?] for questions.

You might provide a list of "perks" such as:

Extra space on the Wiki for User/Unit Pages [above the basic limit].

Create another on-going campaign ribbon. Add another star for years 2,3,5,7,10,[up to whatever practical limits there are].

Give them an extra "vote" come election time. [grin]

Or is there really a need? If not--nevermind. --COMO 10-of-9 [s.lackey] 19:19, 27 Sep 2005 (EDT)
