Talk:MFI RP SIM/Reconstruction

I like what you are trying to do here. The hard part is to find a way to remain flexible, yet provide enough structure to keep order and prevent things from being lost. This last SIM in-process has presented some unique challenges.

  • I really did NOT like the way I had to muck up some of the existing sim pages to make Serendipity ready for action.
    • Perhaps we need to sort out a way to keep sim ship pages separated
      • Establish a somewhat standard format and then stick to it
      • Establish mission specific crew rosters tied to the particular sim being run
      • Ship engineering spec pages for the basic ship structure and common systems
      • Mission specific engineering reference pages outlining special modifications and equipment for the mission
      • Perhaps maintain some sort of brief "Ships Log" pages for each sim ship to chronicle missions and timelines of those missions
    • Maintain multiple ship "Home" pages - we shouldn't waste good work in developing sim ships for role-play
  • I do like the idea of using the official MFI sim mail list for our sim activity while having someone transcribe [and edit a little] the action in a narrative for members who aren't simmming. We have a lot of potential within our wiki. Having a narrative helps outsiders to see what we are doing and softens the "fear-factor" that might keep some beginners from jumping in to give it a go...
  • We also should strive to publicise our sim activity to members list on perhaps a monthly basis
    • Correctly done, we could publish a selected narrative excerpt to spark interest and provide links to the mission narrative and how to join a sim page
    • Of course that means we have to strive to be active
  • We should examine wiki naming convention for Sim Ships
    • example might be SIM:Serendipity similar to our existing USER and CELL wiki page formats
  • Establish a reference [Sim Library?] section on how to sim, how to create a character, etc
    • Perhaps setup a section for NPCs we create, to encourage reuse
      • Name, creator, species, skills and specialties, history, psych profile, etc

In general, we should work towards building something that will last as a legacy resource long after the individuals who contributed are gone.

I see several areas within MFI that could easily be grouped under the SIM umbrella:

  • Sim Fleet
  • Resource [library] pages
  • RP Sim
  • Activity such as Labor Day Offensives
  • MFI SEALS
  • MCE [Maquis Corps of Engineers]
  • Fan Fiction
  • others [?] that escape me right now...

More later... VADM Steve
