Executive Ground and Air Transport - "Mercedes One"
"Mercedes One"
When the International Coordinator and his Staff travel on Ground or short distance by air, he and his staff may opt to travel by vehicle, the Official Vehicle of choice being "Mercedes One," a heavily modified 2380 Mercedes Benz LTE Executive Transport.
The exterior is paneled with five inches of ballistic ablative armor, and is said to be able to withstand photon grenade launchers. The underside of the car is also armored. The windows, which do not open, are transparent armor, thick enough to block sunlight, which is the reason the interior is illuminated with naturalistic artificial lighting. The doors require automatic systems to open, and the car has a run-flat tire system. The limousine is also environmentally sealed against chemical and biological attacks. A four wheel drive system to improve traction might also be fitted.
While most of the features of Mercedes One remains classified, the SSD equipment onboard includes an advanced communications system, a direct communications line to the Flagship which maintains a constant syncronous orbit above the location of the vehicle for an emergency transport directly to the Vehicle's berth aboard the Flagship.
Also equipped is a flight system, which includes thursters for short distance (up to 5,000 kilometers) in the air and limited space flight, because the vehicle has an onboard life support system as a passive air or biological defense system.
The vehicle was constructed by the Antares Mercedes Benz Plant on Antares IV for the Commander in Chief of Starfleet and initially was illegally appropriated by the Maquis, but the signing of the 2382 Federation Maquis Accord granted official ownership of the Vehicle to the Maquis.
