General Overview
Peregrine
The Federation went away from the use of fighters for many years and it was not until just before the Federations War against the Dominion that they started to reconsider the idea. The Borg had destroyed many Federation vessels and they needed ships to take up some of the burden of large starships. The Federation wanted a vessel that could also be rapidly produced. The old Argus class warp fighter was too old to fill the role and runabouts were too general purpose. For this reason, a new warp fighter was developed to replace all older Federation fighters including both warp capable and non warp capable fighters. Several prototypes were stolen by the Maquis where they fought well against the Cardassian's ships. Some people suspect that in reality the ships were given to the Maquis by Federation Intelligence to test the new design.
The Peregrine is a medium fighter/interceptor designed to assist in fleet actions by forcing the enemy to split their fire between as many targets as posible. The craft are designed primarily to operate at impulse or low warp speeds near to their home base, or from a suitable carrier vessel such as an Akira class. While they are capable of warp speeds, the Peregrine is not a true interstellar vessel. At its top cruise speed the ship takes over 58 hours to cross one light year and since it carries no facilities for crew rest or refreshment, pilot fatigue makes trips of even this duration difficult. Nevertheless, many operators have used these ships for limited interstellar missions - most especially the Maquis, who operated a small number of Peregrines during their campain against the Cardassians.
Ju'Day "Raider"
The Ju'Day Class is a light freighter originally designed under Federation auspices as couriers and freighters. Later, they became commonly known as "Maquis Raiders" and commonly used them in our fight against the Cardassians as Attack craft and Boarding, Commandeering vessels.
Raiders come in varying sizes. The smaller Peregrine class variant has a small cockpit with seating for two, and a cargo area in the aft section. The larger Ju'Day version has two decks. Deck One has a separate and much more spacious cockpit which holds four stations, while Deck Two has larger crew facilities, a small Sick Bay, Cargo Hold with transporter and a Cargo/Deployment ramp. These raiders have been in use for a long period of time, some using 39 year-old rebuilt engines, some with newly designed upgraded engines.
Maquis Raiders have Atmospheric flight and landing capabilities. Atmospheric Propulsion: Maximum cruise speed is Mach 8. Stardrive: Uses a warp engine that allows the ship to Cruise at Warp Factor 5.0, with standard Flank Speed being Warp Factor 6. Of course, our engineers have been able to upgrade our units to achieve Flank and Maximum speeds than those estimated by the Federation.
