Commissioning
With plans and other pertinent data for the Galaxy class project in hand, the Maquis Coordinator Council determined to build sixteen of the vessels for their own fleet. The Council further decided that the first eight of these vessels would go to well experienced ship Captains, with the next four going to "Rising Stars", young Commanders that showed a great deal of promise. The twelfth vessel was begun on stardate 60727. To be commanded by a young Marine officer named Rigel McBain. With a reputation for aggressive and innovative tactics, McBain was felt to be the best choice for the last of the "Rising Star" ships. McBain, who was told of the Command only 24 hours before the Dedication ceremony was promoted to full Colonel and given the rare opportunity to choose his crew from anywhere in the Naval and Marine branches of the Maquis military.
