Setting the Stage

  • Stardate 58402.26, Sat May 25 2383 14:10:00 (Central Standard Time)

The incoming message shows a group of formal looking flag officers of the Maquis, primary amongst them is an Andorian of no noteworthy distinction aside from his crisp, ice-blue eyes that show only the coldness of which his planet of origin is known. The maroon trimmed collar and sleeves signifying that he works with the Special Security Directorate. Keeping a hand over the mic for a moment, as he speaks with General Terantin, the VIC and IC, and a dour looking Klingon. His antennae shift forward and back a couple of times, he nods his head and then straightens up to the podium to speak in a deep, resonant tone.

"Good afternoon, for those who do not know me, I am Brigadier General Bre Triellis. I will be brief before our illustrious IC speaks. At precisely 13:42 today, Miramak Outpost - a Colony of Zone 4 just on the Maquis side of Breen space - was attacked and destroyed. As far as we know, there were no survivors. At this time, SSD agents, in conjunction with Naval and Marine branches, are en-route to defend against further incursion, and to investigate and assess the situation. We will not rest until answers have been brought to light, so that the souls of those we know and loved did not die senselessly. And now, Force Admiral T'pek."

As the Andorian steps aside, he can be seen speaking with some of the other staff quietly just after an aide has passed a padd to him that he scans. The IC takes the stand. A tall Vulcan woman with ears only slightly shorter then normal walks calmly to the podium in a simple black uniform with insignia identifying her rank and position.

As she speaks, her even but melodious voice fills the hall, “We mourn our lost and even as we give them due honor, we know we can not sufficiently pay homage to the great spirit that led them to become colonists of a new world. It is with their loss we are all diminished.”

She pauses before continuing. “We will remember however, and in remembering, do what we can to honor what they stood for. We do not know who is responsible but we will find out.” The last four words come with a thread of steel, an absolute sense of confidence despite the half-Vulcan's best efforts at control. At 68, she is still young by Vulcan standards, and so control might be a bit challenging.

After a brief moment, she continues, “Your orders are being sent to your commands as we speak. I know you will protect, you will investigate and you will run to ground those responsible.”

She looks around, catching the eyes of the Commanding Officers and other Flag personnel. “Our thoughts go with you.”

Raising her right hand in a familiar salute, her fingers form the 'V' shape. “It is my sincere wish that you all live long and prosper.”

With that the room comes to attention as she steps away from the podium.

Briefing and Outfitting - Operation: Obscure View

Vessels involved in Operation: Obscure View are to travel to M.S.S. Io immediately for resupply and distribution of investigative and search & rescue teams.

MFS Exploration

Answering the automated distress beacon of Miramak Colony, FCAPT Laury brings the constitution class vessel into orbit, scanning the surface. With the realization that the colony has been obliterated, he widens the range of scans, noting the presence of Breen troops as well as two of their ships attempting to hide their presence by keeping their orbit opposite that of the Exploration. With this knowledge, he sends an encrypted transmission back to HQ. Official channels are quick to reply.

With instructions to his crew to keep all communications SSD Alpha-Omega coded. Orders acknowledged, the Exploration monitors the communication relays, the Terran cloaking device in operation while searching the area for any other Breen ships. Not finding evidence of any more enemy craft in the immediate vicinity, First Officer CMDR Martaya strives to translate intercepted Breen communications. The Terran Empire computer system library possessing a bit more information than that of this mirror universe's Federation archives.

MFS Aurora

As the briefing ends, BDR Triellis looks over the PADD he was given by his aide, scanning it only a moment before leaning in towards the fellow staff members assembled with him. "We have discovered from the first to report at the scene, it is the Breen that attacked Miramak. Commandos are still on the surface, and have already established a base. Two ships are positively identified as Breen, but for the numbers of Commandos on the surface, there must be more ships currently on the move through the zone."
------
Meanwhile, the MFS Aurora's exec, CMDR Rhym gazes intently at the view screen, seated in the captain's chair while her ears flick from the vocalizations emanating from the stations around her.

"Security details positioned and ready, phasers charged and ready, quantum torpedoes loaded." the deep tenor of a Klingon at that station announces, as another hisses sibilant over the comms, "Engineering ready for warp at your command, Ma'am!"

Another voice chimes over the comm, "Dr. Wyz reporting medical and triage stations and teams ready and waiting." while the Betazoid at the science station looks over to the XO with confidence clearly showing in her eyes.

Eyes narrowed slightly, the Caitian First Officer runs the pads of her hands over the smooth arms of the captain's chair, leans forward with emphasis and silkily drawls, "Ensign Cali, plot course for Miramak and take us to warp. We will rendezvous with the Duwamish Shuttle, en route, to pick up our captain." Silently, she prays that she doesn't have to go into battle with this newly designed, yet-untested ship without BDR Triellis in the center seat, her tail giving a slight twisting curl around her left ankle being the only sign of her unease.

MFS Compliance

Aboard MFS Compliance the Flag Bridge lights are dimmed to only a green tinted blue. A small group of Technicians, Analysts, and Tacticians are busy drafting last minute order modifications to deployment orders for Compliance Task Force units. Standing before a 3D tactical plotter, Admiral Ten of Nine looks up from scanning the multiple data-streams, "Connect me to CAPT Sandeen."

"Yes Admiral?" a familiar voice acknowledges. "Terry, I need you to take Serendipity out to Mirramak on a MCE mission. You'll need SEALS section 3-1 for support and some MCE techs. You are tasked with ############-REDACTED-#################. It will all be in your orders. I try to send you some recon support as well. Questions?" "No Sir, Admiral. I already have most of what you asked ready to go already." "Never doubted it, Check Six. We still don't know what we are up against. Out"

Send the designated orders to VP-16. I want them to support Serendipity. Eureka Maru will position herself to search the region for signs of our enemy. The remainder of the squadron will rendezvous with MFS Scavenger and standby to support Serendipity as needed.

Eureka Maru report

<<encoded tight burst transmission from vicinity of Miramak>>

Relayed by Raider/Trapper experimental Long Range Surveilance ship LF-9 "Eureka Maru".

There is a small fleet of Breen ships just outside the Miramak system, about 20 ships. On the planet's surface, under cloak, a base has been established for the Breen Commandos who are there. 20 Breen ships can be quite formidable. Proceed with utmost caution. Eureka Maru out.

MFS Determined

What started off as a routine day in port quickly escalated with one announcement from the communications officer, LCOL Preast. "Skipper, incoming message from HQ. Audio only. I was directed to transfer it direct to your ready room."

"Let HQ know I am on my way, Comms." Colonel Preast manages over his shoulder as he leaves the bridge.

Arriving in his ready room, Colonel Preast receives the message. "Colonel Preast, the situation is very grave. For reasons unknown, the Breen have attacked and decimated our colony at Miramak, along with certain, ah, other assets with which you familiar due to some of your past affiliations. Two Breen ships have been confirmed in the area. No doubt they are waiting to see what our response will be. There are also Breen patrols on the ground. Sensors are detecting very few survivors with faint life signs. We need you and your team to get there. Now! HQ out."

The Colonel takes a deep breath, strides back to the bridge and speaks, "Attention on the bridge, we are getting underway post-haste. Get us on a heading to Miramak. I will give you further details once we are en route and well away from pier facilities. Stop within transporter range and weapons range of Miramak. If we are detected and anyone asks why we are stopped, we are having 'engine problems' and will get underway again as soon as possible. I may get, uh, called away. In that case, COL Bayonet, you will have the conn. I have to get ready." With that, he is off again.

The bridge crew shrug and look at each other. "A man of few words indeed," says COL Bayonet. "Helm, take us out."

"But sir, we are supposed to be waiting for the arrival of our new Security Chief, Mr. Waynie."

"Helm, I am well aware of the plan for the day. However, the Colonel said we go, so we go."

In his ready room, Colonel Preast does what he has done so many times before. Dressed in all black from head to toe, face painted black, with a black head rag tied on, he puts his V-42 knife in place on his vest. It was considered a relic, but he prefers it and has always loved its history; the Devil's Brigade in Earth's Second World War had carried the same blade. For the last step, the Skipper grabs his M2-43 rifle. "Marine, SEALS, Sniper and EOD. Some folks would say I'm gettin' too old for this...but I like it!"

Determined pulls away from port, making her way towards Miramak.
